Your phone becomes a 17-key kalimba. Pluck a tine with your thumb and it rings out clear; follow the notes falling from above, and before you know it you have played a whole song from start to finish.
Made for anyone who wants to try the kalimba before buying one, anyone who needs five calm minutes of sound a day, and anyone learning the instrument from scratch.
Kalimba music is written in numbers: 1 is Do, 2 is Re … 7 is Ti. A dot above a number means one octave higher.
Every tine in the app is colored by its note name, so Do is always the same color in every octave — and the falling notes use the same colors, which makes them easy to follow. The longest tine in the middle is 1 (Do).
Play several of the seventeen tines at once with as many fingers as you like; each pluck makes the tine shimmer and sends out a ripple of sound. Play screens are landscape by default, and you can switch them to portrait.
Pluck the matching tine the moment a note reaches the hit line. Perfect, Good and Miss judgments, combos and a three-star rating show your progress. NORMAL is melody only; HARD adds harmony and a faster tempo.
Familiar tunes such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Ode to Joy and Arirang, arranged for the kalimba. Five songs are free from the start; the rest can be yours to keep in the SHOP for 100 points each. Every song has a free 20-second preview before you buy.
A short tutorial on first launch takes you from your first pluck to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. In Study, 4 units × 3 lessons teach thumb technique, the scale, octave dots, rhythm and chords step by step.
Play whatever you like in Free Play. Adjust sustain and volume and turn the number labels on or off. Tap Rec and the app saves its own sound output to a WAV file on your device — no microphone involved.
A new Song of the Day waits on the home screen every day. Each song has a ranking of top players, so you can chase a high score under your own nickname.
Watch an ad to earn 30 points (up to 3 times a day), and buy point packs only if you want to. A one-time Premium purchase removes ads and unlocks every song for good. No random items or gacha.
